On behalf of the Trustees of the Adam Kilgarriff Prize, I’m delighted to announce that the Prize for 2022 has been awarded to Elena Álvarez Mellado of the UNED School of Computer Science in Madrid. Elena was awarded the Prize for her leading role in the creation and development of an NLP-based system for the automatic retrieval of English loanwords in the Spanish press; for monitoring and analysing their use; for the associated website Observatorio Lázaro; and for a number of related assets, including a Twitter bot (@lazarobot), which gives the project a social dimension.
We congratulate Elena, and look forward to seeing her later this year at the eLex 2023 conference in Brno, Czechia (27–29 June). We also sincerely thank all the other applicants, not least for giving us the opportunity to learn more about the interesting work they are doing.
