2022 winner: Elena Ɓlvarez Mellado

On behalf of the Trustees of the Adam Kilgarriff Prize, I’m delighted to announce that the Prize for 2022 has been awarded to Elena Ɓlvarez Mellado of the UNED School of Computer Science in Madrid. Elena was awarded the Prize for her leading role in the creation and development of an NLP-based system for the automatic retrieval of English loanwords in the Spanish press; for monitoring and analysing their use; for the associated website Observatorio LĆ”zaro; and for aĀ number of related assets, including aĀ Twitter bot (@lazarobot), which gives the project a social dimension.

We congratulate Elena, and look forward to seeing her later this year at the eLex 2023 conference in Brno, Czechia (27ā€“29 June). We also sincerely thank all the other applicants, not least for giving us the opportunity to learn more about the interesting work they are doing.

Applications for the fourth iteration of Adam Kilgariff Prize

Applications for the fourth iteration of the Adam Kilgarriff Prize are now invited. Full information for potential applicants can be found in the Information for Applicants section.

The deadline for applications is 30th September 2022. A winner will be announced on or before 31st December 2022, and the Prize will be awarded at the eLex Conference of 2023 in Brno, Czech Republic (date to be confirmed).
